90 years later, experts still unraveling Black Sox mystery

Forty-six years after the publication of Eight Men Out, the Black Sox story continues its hold on history lovers as more details of the complex case are revealed in bits and pieces.http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/al/whitesox/2009-07-28-BlackSox_N.htm

Hi ho! Kermit the frog here!

The running score in each game is described in a manner unique to tennis. Scores of zero to three points are described as "love" (or "zero"), "15", "30", and "40", respectively. The origins of the 15, 30, and 40 scores are believed to be medieval French. It is possible that a clock face was used on court, with a quarter move of the hand to indicate a score of 15, 30, and 45. When the hand moved to 60, the game was over. However, it was realized that the game could then be won by luck, and so the idea of "deuce" was introduced. In order to make the score still within the ""60"" ticks on the clock face, the 45 was changed to 40. Therefore, if both players have 40, the first player to score receives ten and that moves the clock to 50. If the player scores a second time before the opponent is able to score, they are awarded another ten and the clock moves to 60. The 60 signifies the end of the game. However, if a player fails to score twice in a row, then the clock would move back to 40 to establish another “deuce”Another theory is that the scoring nomenclature came from the French game jeu de paume (a precursor to tennis that substituted the racquet for a hand). Jeu de paume was very popular before the French revolution, with more than 1,000 courts in Paris alone. The traditional court was 90 ft in total with 45 ft on each side. When the server scored, he/she moved forward 15 ft. If he/she scored again, he/she would move another 15 ft. If he/she scored a third time, he/she could only move 10 ft closer

This reminds me of a joke

Two rednecks decide to go duck hunting together. So, they go to a pond, but since they're in Texas in the middle of a dry spell, the pond doesn't have any water in it. One of the rednecks says "Y'know, Earl, ducks ain't that smart. I bet if we spread a blue tarp over the pond, the ducks'll think it's water and come land on it!" Earl thinks this is a good idea and gets the tarp from his pick-up. They spread the tarp out, hide behind some reeds and wait for the ducks. Two ducks show up and fly down for a landing. Just before they get into rifle range, the ducks start laughing and fly off. Two more ducks show up, but before they get close enough, they fly away laughing. After this happens a third time, Earl says "Bubba, why don't you go out there and see what those ducks think is so damn funny?" Bubba comes out of the reeds for a better look. He comes back laughing. Earl asks "What was so funny?""Two Aggies are out there trying to fish!"

you are the best

Consider...YOU. In all time before now and in all time to come, there has never been and will never be anyone just like you. You are unique in the entire history and future of the universe. Wow! Stop and think about that. You're better than one in a million, or a billion, or a gazillion…
You are the only one like you in a sea of infinity!!!
You're amazing! You're awesome! And by the way, TAG, you're it. As amazing and awesome as you already are, you can be even more so. Beautiful young people are the whimsey of nature, but beautiful old people are true works of art. But you don't become "beautiful" just by virtue of the aging process.
Real beauty comes from learning, growing, and loving in the ways of life. That is the Art of Life. You can learn slowly, and sometimes painfully, by just waiting for life to happen to you. Or you can choose to accelerate your growth and intentionally devour life and all it offers. You are the artist that paints your future with the brush of today.
  Paint a Masterpiece.
God gives every bird its food, but he doesn't throw it into its nest. Wherever you want to go, whatever you want to do, it's truly up to you.

Happy 2010

I am just back home after my night in Edinburgh. I have to say that i really enjoyed the night and it really does go down as one of my favoured new years nights...although the temperatures could have been better. It's now 03:30am and i am literally just in the door, i must have spent about 45 minutes waiting for a taxi at the taxi ranch and as a result of the -7C temperatures i quickly sobered up. I've been awake for 24 hours now, so i am going to go hit the sack and wake up sometime early January.Happy New Year everyone.
